Why should I get a Ceramic Coating?
Ceramic or nano-ceramic coating acts as an additional layer of protection for your car. The ultra-fine, thin coating is applied by hand and uses nanotechnology to seal the entire surface, making it water-repellant or hydrophobic. It protects your car from water and helps prevent damage from UV rays, chemicals, excessive heat, scratches, dirt, and other heavy pollutants. It’s almost like a glass-like barrier for your vehicle, meaning it can take damage and pressure much better than a non-coated vehicle. It’s not new either; the military has used it for years to protect things like aircraft engine blades thanks to its protective properties, and now made its way to the auto industry.
What are the benefits of ceramic coating?
The biggest benefit of a ceramic coating is its protection against pollutants and dirt that attack your car’s paint, which makes it look older in a relatively short period. Other benefits include:
1. Longer lifetime
Compared to other types of paint protection, ceramic coatings last the longest; they remain intact for years. The most expensive ceramic coating services last for over five years. You get an all-time shine and gloss over your car for a long time, removing the need to wax or seal your paint regularly.
2. Protection against pollutants
A layer of ceramic coating protects your car from many things, ranging from corrosive chemicals to color fading due to extreme heat during summer. You might be surprised to know that water itself can cause damage to your car. As the paint absorbs moisture from the atmosphere or when water particles remain on the surface, it evaporates. What’s left behind are water spots leaving salt, dirt, and mineral deposits that soon solidify and etch into the paintwork. Being super-hydrophobic, ceramic paint protection significantly assists with repelling these water spots, which can often appear on your paint and windows.
Ceramic coatings also offer protection from chemicals and pollutants produced by gasoline, brake fluid, generic cleaners, etc. With a ceramic coating, your paint doesn’t wear off over time. It also acts as a protective barrier against UV rays, which tend to be the most dangerous for your car, as such rays oxidize the paint and cause it to fade. And while things like bird droppings or tree sap might sound harmless, these pollutants etch deeper into your car’s paint, causing near-permanent damage.
3. Scratch resistance
Ceramic coatings act as a shell against scratches. However, this does not mean your car becomes completely immune to them; the probability of it getting scratched decreases significantly. It saves your car from the finer and less severe scratches that add up quickly and dull the car's appearance.
4. Enhances the paintwork
The most popular reason for ceramic coatings is their ability to improve the gloss and shine of your car’s paint, keeping its appearance as good as new. Cleaning the car becomes easier to maintain as the coating prevents the build-up of dirt and pollutants. You will notice a significant difference while washing your car, as it feels a lot smoother when you glide across from panel to panel to clean.
What is the benefit of a ceramic coating vs. Wax and paint sealants?
Car wax and paint sealants are often used as alternatives to ceramic coatings. However, they are usually much cheaper and ineffective compared to ceramic coatings. So, in reality, they aren’t true direct alternatives — they’re just cheaper and less effective.
1. Durability and longevity
While wax offers average durability and sealants offer intermediate durability, ceramic coatings provide excellent durability. They keep your vehicle’s exterior in its best condition for years. Wax works well for roughly a month, and sealants are good for a few months. On the other hand, ceramic coatings work perfectly for a few years, depending on their quality and post-coating care.
2. Effectiveness
Based on advanced nanotechnology, ceramic coatings have proved to be the most effective protectants compared to wax and sealants. Coating provides an enhanced level of hardness (9H Hardness), a property that is virtually non-existent in any wax or sealant. Applying the ceramic coating hardens into a glass-like element and provides hard protection, unlike any other alternative on the market.
3. Maintenance
Keeping your car clean is much easier as dirt and debris are less likely to adhere to your car and more easily prayed or wiped off. The life of the coating will depend on the care taken with maintenance washing. Nothing is better than a careful hand wash. High-touch automatic car washes are the hardest on any paint, regardless of whether it is coated. Ceramic coatings are not an impervious shield as they will still scratch, you can still get paint chips, etc… but they will reduce the quantity and severity, thus keeping the new car shining longer. It also saves you the trouble of applying regular hydrophobic coatings such as waxes and sealants.
How much does a Ceramic Coating Cost, and how long does it take?
Depending on vehicle size and paint condition, the process takes 10-20 hours to complete and may require leaving overnight. Typically, drop it off mid-day and picking up late the next day. The cost will vary between normally falls between $800 - $2000
What Coating Should I Choose?
While there are less expensive ceramic coatings, the main expense is the labor involved in properly preparing the surface, enhancing the paint’s appearance, and applying the coating properly. If you invest in a ceramic coating, I highly recommend choosing the best professional grade products. Typically if you are getting a great price on a paint protection service they installer is cutting corner of the prep work. Its the time, labor and skill and of installer that represents 75% of the cost of professionally installed paint protection product.
At Duke Detailing, we only use long term professional grade products offering ultra-slick paint for the best self-cleaning hydrophobic properties, water spot resistance, UV protection, and so much more! Our NanoPro and ADS Quartz coatings great all around coatings that achieve the highest level of gloss possible. Both options exceed expectations, providing YOU-WONT-BELIEVE-YOUR-EYES-GLOSS & HYDROPHOBIC PROPERTIES.
What’s Special about Our NanoPro surface protection product Line?
NanoPro paint protection is distinguished by being a certified, stackable system rather than a single coating or cut film.
What sets it apart:
-
Liquid PPF is applied as a liquid and cures into a flexible polyurethane-acrylic film. Unlike traditional sheet PPF, it has no seams, cut lines, or peeling edges, and it conforms to complex curves without wrapping or panel removal.
-
The hybrid formula is a higher-tensile alternative to standard polyurethane film, with a 10-year warranty. Combined with NanoPro ceramic, it can qualify for permanent status and CarFax registration.
-
Borophene and Borograph ceramics are NanoPro’s own chemistry: boron-based (Borophene) and graphene oxide + boron silicate (Borograph). They are designed for high gloss, strong hydrophobicity, UV/chemical resistance, and long-term durability—not generic SiO2 coatings.
-
The intended “ultimate” package is Liquid PPF + ceramic top coat: physical protection underneath, gloss and easy-care performance on top.
In short: NanoPro’s distinction is seamless liquid film plus proprietary ceramic chemistry, professionally installed and registered, instead of conventional cut film or off-the-shelf coating.
How Can You Claim and offer a Lifetime warranty on Ceramic Coatings?
NanoPro coatings can perform for the vehicle's life. Of course, maintenance is key, and that includes simply keeping it clean and decontaminated when required. No toppers or re-application are needed but to maintain the lifetime warranty an annual inspection is required
Coatings lose performance over time for 2 main reasons: abrasion. Abrasion can be avoided using good wash techniques. Some cars are 50 years old or older and drive around with original paint, just like there are 5-year-old cars with failing paint. Again, maintaining anything properly will extend its lifetime. Buy a new car with a 5-year warranty, and don’t change the oil. The chances are it will fail within five years, so follow the recommended maintenance, and the engine will greatly outlast the warranty period.
The second reason is fracturing. A good coating forms a strong bond with the underlying surface, but the surface is susceptible to fracturing. Fracturing is caused primarily by hot/ cold cycles. Let’s say a coating “fails” after 3 years; the coating is still on the surface, but the surface of the coating is fractured, reducing gloss and hydrophobics to the point that it appears that the coating is no longer present. NanoPro ceramic coating have extreme heat resistance which greatly reduces the risk of fracturing. With proper maintenance, NanoPro Ceramic coatings will perform for the vehicle's life.
So Do NanoPro Ceramic Coatings really Come with a Lifetime Warranty?
First of all, we always stand by our work. A lifetime warranty is a premium offering. I have seen a lot of warranty offerings and the all come with disclaimers for improper maintenance and require annual inspection service and this is true of the NanoPro warranties which also come with CarFax Registration. If you want to ensure that your coating stands the test of time, we’ll be here to help.
My Car Isn't Beading Water Anymore - This Must Mean The Ceramic Coating Has Failed?
This is a common question. If a surface is not repelling water anymore, the perception is that the protection must have failed. What appears to be a clean surface may be contaminated with minerals and other embedded contaminants. With a proper multi-step decontamination wash, your coating performance can be restored. Getting a professional decontamination wash annually is highly recommended to maximize the performance of a ceramic coating.
